Hard drive install time lapse

Posted on October 21, 2008November 18, 2010 by Michael

In keeping with the current theme, here’s a video of me installing a new hard drive in a G4 Powerbook. At the start of the video all the screws had already been taken out.

This was my wife’s couch computer.  I sold it to a buddy for almost enough to completely pay for it’s replacement: a hacintosh Dell mini 9.  It’s ordered and should be here middle of November.  Not sure why it takes so long – something to do with it being built to order.  But more on that when it comes in.

You could have a video series called “Things I did instead of work today”. 🙂
That’s cool…like the high speed install. Goodbye old Mac, I hardly knew ye!

I still can’t believe you bought me a Dell. I’m actually going to have a Milkbone sanctioned non-Apple laptop. Think Same.

Well as you can see, this particular distraction only took 1 minute. So that’s less time than a smoke break.

I am extremely impressed! It took me longer than that to figure out how to reset my garage door opener. I like the way you take something that boggles the minds of most mere mortals (a hard drive–I am still stumped on how something that little can do so much) and demonstrate with precision and ease how to replace it. I do believe you should have a disclaimer on the video: “Do not attempt this at home–Your computer may never work again!” I can only imagine the devastion (but fun) I could have if I took the back off my laptop. Cool! Look at all the colors…I wonder what this one does? As long as there are peeps like me in the world, there is definitely job security for techies!

Did you change your shirt for the making of this video? Because as I recall I don’t recall seeing you wear a shirt like that when I was there…. hmmm cool video though.

No, this is a real shirt that I own and I just randomly decided to wear it on Oct 21st which just happened to also be the day that my buddy’s new hard drive arrived and he just happened to ask me if we could shoot a timelapse of me putting in the hard drive. Nothing was prearranged. It all just happened and I posted it here because it turned out kinda cool.
